  • Celebrating 200 Years of KIT – by showcasing our current work to the public!

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is celebrating a major milestone this year: its 200th anniversary! As part of the celebrations, KIT opened its doors to the public on May 17 during the annual "Tag der offenen Tür" (Open Day).

To celebrate this occasion, our institute together with the KIT Zentrum Mensch und Technik (MuT) showcased some of our latest research and interactive demonstrators to visitors in the MobiLab tiny house. Highlights included:

Digital Twin in Online Meetings – Design Your Own Virtual Representative

Led by Anuja Hariharan, this demo explored how individuals might configure and personalize digital meeting avatars using emerging AI technologies. Visitors were invited to consider how their virtual representative should look and behave — and whether they'd accept such a proxy in video conferences, either for themselves or others.

Sound of Your Brain – Music from the Mind

In this immersive experience, Fabio Stano invited guests to hear their own brain activity transformed into music. Using specially designed EEG headphones, brain signals were captured in real time and converted into sound — creating a unique blend of neuroscience, art, and self-reflection.

    Virtual Tutors for AI Education

Thimo Schulz presented an innovative approach to teaching Artificial Intelligence using Extended Reality (XR) and generative AI. Visitors met a virtual tutor that demonstrated how these technologies can deliver engaging, interactive, and personalized learning experiences.

We thank everyone who joined us and look forward to the next chapter in our journey!
