WIN at Nordic Energy Informatics Academy Conference 2026

  • Recently, Oliver Resch from the research group "Smart Grids and Energy Markets" (SGEM) presented his short paper "What Smart Heat Meters Reveal About Energy Performance Certificates: A Heat-Balance Decomposition Approach" at the Energy Informatics Academy Nordic Conference (EIA Nordic 2026) in Reykjavik.
    Energy performance certificates often predict a heat demand that differs clearly from what buildings actually use. Together with Leo Semmelmann and Christof Weinhardt, Oliver analyzed smart heat meter data from about 1,400 homes in Aalborg, Denmark, to find the cause. The results show that the gap stems mainly from how the certificates estimate effective heat losses, not from assumed indoor temperatures. The paper will be published in Springer's Lecture Notes in Computer Science.
    The conference brought together researchers working on digital solutions for energy systems and had several heating-focus tracks. Discussions with other participants, including the creators of the Aalborg dataset, provided valuable feedback and first ideas for joint work. We look forward to building on these contacts.
